Programming: What I've Been Doing Lately

Charlie Page of Insane Visions and I have been working on an upcoming PHP project codenamed "Project Galaxy". We can't go into specifics at this moment but it will hopefully be pitched to game publishers interested in the idea. On a personal level the project combines everything I've learned in the gaming industry and in University when it comes to business. As a team, Charlie and I were able to bring our coding experiences to the table to build a good framework from the ground up.

I'm not a great programmer by any means, I'm more of a concepts person, despite this I was still able to make good progress on a personal level with the project. Seeing Galaxy get to this stage (about 75-80% finished) was not easy by any means. To a certain extent I was burnt out with programming, Charlie became flooded with work. Scheduling issues were present, finding people who could work for cheap was also tough. Other issues were really with the code itself, in the beginning it was a nightmare, if something broke all work on the project had to be stopped until it could be fixed. What was supposed to finish in a week began to drag on.

To shorten development time, we did have to improvise in a few areas but in the end things should be carried out according to the original plan.

If the project works out like we hope it will, it could change our lives greatly. I hope I can share more in the future, we will begin pitching when the project is at least 85-95% done, 100% would be perfect. I have roughly two or three publishers in mind to pitch the idea to. What I can confirm however is that this will not be a public script in the vein of OneCMS or AdaptCMS. The business side of things were essentially finished within the first week but there are still a few areas I'm going to improve before we show the CMS to interested parties. Applying what I've learned to a project was really fun, I do hope it works out well for all involved.

As an aside, I also hope to get some work done with TGS on the PHP side (I've already done a few thing) as well as OneCMS 2.6.4.
