Another Shelved Project?
Unfortunately, it seems the project that was previously alluded to may not be coming together at all.
I've been told I have big ambitions and am a creative person, whether any of that is true, I don't know. The idea started years ago yet wasn't developed into what we had in mind until late June of this year. We were supposed to get a quick demo up in about a weeks time to show to potentially interested parties. We didn't meet that date. Even now, the project is probably about 70% finished, we have quite a few things to do before we can show it to anyone. Charlie and I have other programming projects we maintain, even some that we were collaborating on so we didn't want to spend too much time on a tech demo if there was no guarantee that it could go anywhere since we would only lose time and resources.
The time that I have to wait out a potential deal is also getting smaller and smaller each passing day. My University semester starts in September and I have to begin finalizing my schedule soon. I can't wait too long since I don't want to be left with nothing. If I make my schedule and we get a deal that can only be finalized after the last day to drop classes (due to the time it takes to negotiateand all) my transcript would take a hit and it's nothing something I want to risk. If it gets to a point where I can't schedule the project accordingly I will have to pull out.
Charlie was also facing issues at work over scheduling since they were low on employees and those who were left had to put in extra to make up. On top of this, many of his accounts were compromised due to a Keylogger placed on his system a few months ago. The logger was removed months ago but the data it collected was recently posted, not just Charlie's mind you but many who were infected. We managed to get things sorted out relatively quickly, so far. Almost all of our projects have taken a hit as a result but with good reason.
Certain elements were also outsourced to developers who could have aided with development. We were promised a lot and even adapted the pitch to reflect it, in the end nothing was delivered. The people who were contracted eventually stopped responding to our e-mails, IM's, etc, we got the message. Fortunately no money was lost in the process but if we wanted to get things back on track we had to start spending, unfortunately, it was something that couldn't be budgeted.
Since we started the project, about three similar and potentially competing products were bought out by companies who wanted to invest in what they had long term. Our ideas differed from these because what we had in mind was new, unique, and had a pretty solid plan behind it. The X factor was time which was always against us. In hindsight I'm feeling kind of bad for having missed out on various events that occurred since starting work on the project, I decided not to go to them since I wanted to continue working on the project instead of missing hours, days, and in one case an entire week. Not feeling too great about it now.
There is a slight flicker of hope that things may get back on track and that perhaps we may be able to share our work with the world, but I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope for such a thing. If the last resort never arrives, it's still a project I'd love to see through if I had the opportunity. Perhaps the most devastating and haunting aspect is knowing you had a good idea that could have changed so much for so many yet couldn't do anything.
