Project Galaxy is Dead? :: General

Project Galaxy is Dead?

Sep 03 - 2010Posted by Mehar

Project Galaxy, the project which I have hyped on my blog for the past few months is most likely dead as of September 3rd, 2010 at roughly 12:05 AM. The remaining publisher who we held out hope for has declined our offer. I am extremely heart broken as a result.

Galaxy was essentially supposed to be an online games portal with a core idea behind it. The goal for us was to pitch the project to potentially interested parties, continue development, and make our partners some money.

Unfortunately, companies we approached or planned on approaching have either not responded, were shut down, have similar products, or were simply not interested. I was shocked to see this happen, while Galaxy was in development just about everyone who saw it or heard of it (third parties who I have never met) loved the concept. They all saw great potential in the project, unfortunately, it won't be realized.

Due to recent events, I held out hope that the "final" publisher on the table would consider the project. We felt very confident going in when they asked to see the project. We weren't given a clear reason either for the rejection, I have made attempts to follow up. This further adds to my nearly decade long string of bad luck...did I get on someones bad side as a kid?

Development was a nightmare, from a horrible schedule to people promising work and then disappearing from the face of the earth. The original plan would have most of the work done in about a week, basically a tech demo that we would begin to show off. An iPhone application, even Java framework were also planned but never delivered, the people behind them basically vanished. Ideally both the iPhone application and framework would be roughly 40-50% by the time we presented. One week eventually turned into two months, in the process I had sacrificed a lot and in the end it was for nothing, from trips planned with family to regular work.

I am also very grateful to the final publisher for giving us time to hear our ideas, they have definitely grown in my eyes for giving us the opportunity. They even wished us luck with the project. It's a shame things couldn't have gone further.

To put it simply, we have run out of options and Galaxy is pretty much dead. We could launch it ourselves but we have no "name" behind it or funding to do so. The matter is made even more complex when realizing we have no IP's to launch with. As a now failed producer, I have plenty of ideas, but none can really work with Galaxy.

I have decided to keep the code just in case anything ever comes from the project, although I'm really not holding out much hope.

In other news, I think I might have some internal bleeding issues, will be looking out for it. All great things happen at once, eh?

Will I ever get my break in life? I doubt it.
